Settled into the New Year…..

Dear Parents

We hope that you are now settled into the New Year. After our snow-delayed start to 2010, we are pleased to be back in our routines! Here at Cecil Square we are planning a major decoration and this will mean scaffolding going up in the front vestibule. Because of this, we will not be meeting on Friday 12th February.

We wanted to take the opportunity to let you know of some dates coming up over the next term or so – diaries fill up so quickly!

Sunday 7th Feb and March will be our monthly family and parade services, and we hope you will be able to join us.

Saturday 6^th March‘

Junior Fun and Competition Aftemoon -letters to follow

Saturday 3^r^d April This Easter Saturday will be the wedding here at Cecil Square of

Rachel Facey and Gary Mead.

Saturday 12th June Flag and publicity day at Westwood Cross

Saturday 19^th June : Band have been asked to play at the Big Event Air Show

We will of course be arranging our camps for the summer – our Junior camp at a Church base, and our ‘senior camp on a ‘camp site. Forihose coming with us iD Firm Foundations, you need to confirm your place with Mr and Mrs Lane. In addition, for the 16 – 25 year olds we are planning to take part in EuroQuest on the 10^t^h and 11th July. There will be separate letters for all these events.’

For our D of E group, as the days start to lighten Philip and Laura are planning some walking trips. If your child has an e-mail address it would be helpful to have that to confirm

arrangements, which are often weather dependant! .

Finally, can we just remind our senior group that their sessions don’t start until 6.30pm. A few young people have needed to make specific altemative arrangements with us which is fine, but otherwise if you could be ready to register for 6.30pm that would be helpful.

Welcome back – New term 2010

Dear Parents

Welcome back to the new term – we hope you have enjoyed your Christmas, and made the most of the snow men opportunities!

This Sunday it is our first family Parade service of 2010, and we hope you are able to join us. Your child should be here in uniform for 10.30, and there will be coffee and biscuits in the hall afterwards. As Stephen Biddall is the Mayor’s Chaplain, and we are appointed the Mayoral Band for the year, the service will finish a little earlier at about 11.45. The Band and Stephen will then make our way along the seafront to lead the civic parade for the Blessing of the Sea.

We will meet at Westbrook Cottages (the road alongside Mario Photography on the Canterbury Road) and process at 12.15 to the sea front beyond the Nayland Rock. (BAND – please note we will turn onto the promenade by the flagpole at the Nayland Rock, and march past the shelter – the parade behind us will then have access down the steps onto the beach)

Saturday 20th March National Band Competitions
After suggestions from the band, we are proposing extra rehearsals in preparation for this competition which is earlier than in previous years. We are planning to meet from 4 – 6pm on Sunday afternoons at the hall except for parade Sundays (or really obvious holidays!) Please let me know if you have any questions or any difficulties with this.

Saturday 3rd April This Easter Saturday will be the wedding here at Cecil Square of Rachel Facey and Gary Mead.

The brigades went off to camp…. minibus loaded with people and gear – not mention the cars that went loaded too…. want to know what happened, ask one of the children who went.

National Band Competition – What a result!!

What a result for the Joint Girl’s & Boys’ Brigade band – after a very long Journey to Stoke, the travel was well worth it ( and I guess the practise too looking at the result). Returning with 4 trophies !!

Firm Foundations – update

Dear Parents,

It will soon be time for our first camp of the year- Firm Foundations.
We require the balance to be paid by the end of April- £50 – as the deposit
of £25 has already been paid.
We are all looking forward to this special event arranged by the BB and
GB for our young people. A camp list will be given to you later on nearer
to the time.

Band activities update and changes to competion plans

We had a good time last Sunday playing for the Mayor at his Civic Service – both as he
paraded into the Church, and then for a time during the service! All the young people played
really well, and were a credit both to you and themselves.
I wanted to confirm a couple of forthcoming dates. We have agreed to play for the local
scouts association and their Annual St George’s Day Parade on Sunday 26th April 2009. As
last year, the service will take place at the Winter Gardens in the afternoon; we will have more
detail nearer the time.
The SE Regional Band Competition has unfortunately had to be cancelled – you will recall
this was planned for the 9th May – so that’s a Saturday off!! However, we are hopeful that
there will be a new opportunity next year.
In the meantime, we are busy trying to put our performance together for the national
competitions at Stoke on the 6th June 2009.
If in the meantime you have any questions, then please do not hesitate to speak with me or

Sunday 1st March – Parade service & Commissioning a new officer

This Sunday 1st March it is our monthly family and parade service, and we are particularly hoping
you will be able to join with us on this occasion. During the service, Philip will be receiving his
Commission as an Officer in our Boy’s Brigade Company.
Many of you will know Philip from Holiday Club, or from some of the activities he leads with u& on a
Friday night. We are really pleased that we are able to celebrate with him as he takes on this
additional commitment with the company.
Your child should be here in full uniform for about 10.30am. We hope to parade at about midday,
and then as usual have coffee and biscuits in the hall. It would be great if you were able to join
with all or some of this time.

Playing for the Mayor – Sunday 22.2.09

To confirm the arrangements for this Sunday.
Meet at our hall for 2.30 to collect instruments to go up to St John’s. We will need to work out where we will play from both in the service and whilst people arrive.

Please make sure your have your full uniform. We will play before the service and a couple of pieces in the service. We’ll go back to cecil square afterwards – there will be some food for us back at the church, and then it is Cafe Church and youth club in the evening.
